Fundamentals of Yoga & Meditation

There are so many styles and teachers of Yoga & Meditation sometimes it is challenging to know where to start.  Whether you are new to this path or have ​traveled some already, I feel the following elements are essential to a safe inward journey.  The most important thing you can do is show up, listen to your body, and have fun!  This is a journey for a lifetime so let's get started! 

FOUNDATION 

  • How to develop self awareness and observation

  • How to balance and support yourself while sitting, standing or lying down.

  • How to use props and practice safely for your unique body

 

BREATH

 

  • Understand the anatomy of breath  

  • Basic breathing techniques and their effects on mind and body

  • How the breath is the bridge between the mind and the body and its central role in meditation and relaxation

  • Clear energy from body and mind

MOVEMENT

 

  • ​Feeling the Foundation and Feeling the Breath we begin to feel the movements of the body.

  • Gentle & rhythmic movements to open the spine and body

  • Stretches to move energy through the

    • Neck and Shoulders

    • Hips and Hamstrings

    • Hands and Feet

  • Back Bending, Forward Bending, Twisting and Inversions

  • Cultivate deeper understanding of the relationship between anatomy and the practice of yoga and your own particular stress patterns

STILLNESS

  • Experience the stillness between the movements, between the breaths

  • A time for softening, listening, feeling, observing 

  • Deep Relaxation 

MEDITATION

  • Beginning with Mindfulness and Experiencing the Present Moment

  • Observing the Sensations of Body and Mind

  • Mantras

  • Chanting

  • Eye Focus

  • Breath

 

You will receive guidance into developing a home practice, how to set up your own space, what props to use, and how to develop a daily practice routine that blends in with your life style.
